Event Details

This registration process allows you to reserve your space for an ASB trip and pay for the corresponding fee. General applicants must pay the entire non-refundable program fee, by Discover, MasterCard, Visa or AMEX at the time of registration.  The per person trip fee for a driving trip is $400, a bus trip is $350 (with the exception of Boston; $200), and a flying trip is $900.

Scholarships: Students applying for an ASB scholarship, will instead pay a non-refundable $150 deposit. Unfortunately, scholarships will not be offered to students selecting a flying trip. Scholarship applicants will be asked to answer an essay question as part of the registration process. Scholarships go only to the neediest of students, usually whom are Pell Grant eligible. Decisions are based solely on financial need as determined by Boston University. Pending the scholarship decision, you are required to pay any remaining balance due for your chosen trip no later than 5:00pm, January 17, 2013. SEE FAQ's BELOW - FOR "APPLYING FOR A SCHOLARSHIP AND HOW DO I USE A PROMOTIONAL CODE?

YOU WILL BE DROPPED FROM ALL TRIPS AND BECOME INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM. THIS INCLUDES REGISTERING FOR A TRIP AND THE WAITLIST.

ASB scholarships are need-based only. Typically scholarships go only to students who are Pell Grant eligible or have high financial need. There are a limited number of scholarships available. Scholarships are not offered for flying trips.

CELOP students will not be able to register for ASB due to the limited number of available spots.

Yes. ASB participants who are willing to drive will need to be van trained this year by the CSC through ASB regardless of any previous van training experience. We highly recommend that students choosing to register for driving trips get van trained.  We will need as many willing drivers as possible on each trip.

You will be contacted via telephone if a spot opens up. If you cannot be reached by telephone, we will send a follow-up email.  You will have 24 hours to respond if you are interested in registering.

When will I know if I am pulled off the waitlist?

We will keep offering open spots until the week before Spring Break (March 7). If you are pulled off the waitlist, you will receive a phone call or an email.

The Community Service Center

Our Mission

The Community Service Center aims to provide the Boston University community with opportunities to address and improve the critical concerns of Greater Boston; to support and encourage students to make a difference; to serve as a vehicle for personal growth and leadership; to be active and responsible members in neighboring communities; to broaden the scope of the educational experience through service and reflection; and to serve Greater Boston in a meaningful and mutually beneficial way.

Our History

The Community Service Center (CSC), originally called “The League” was founded by a group of Boston University students in 1986. These students wanted to address the critical issues facing Boston and started several volunteer programs under the leadership of Marsh Chapel.

By 1989, The League had 17 different programs including FYSOP, The Youth Tutoring Program (now known as Afterschool), Alternative Spring Breaks and Student Food Rescue. Over the years, interest in volunteering continued to grow with programs like Alternative Winter Break and the AIDS Support and Advocacy Program (now known as Project Hope). The League was renamed The Community Service Center in 1991, and moved to its current location on the 4th floor of the George Sherman Union in 1998.

The Community Service Center remains committed to providing the Boston University Community with opportunities to address and improve critical concerns of Greater Boston and beyond. In 2011, the Community Service Center encompassed 4,500 volunteers in 13 programs and one-time events, completing 130,000 hours of service.
